Launch of the EU- Youth Sounding Board in Kenya: A New Era of Youth Empowerment

In a landmark event for youth engagement, the EU-Youth Sounding Board Kenya(YSB) the first of its kind in the country, was officially launched. This initiative marks a significant milestone in youth empowerment, creating a dedicated platform where young voices can influence the future of the EU-Kenya partnership. By amplifying the perspectives and ideas of the youth, the YSB aims to drive meaningful change that reflects the diverse needs and aspirations of young Kenyans.

The Youth Sounding Board comprises 15 incredible members who bring a wealth of experience, enthusiasm, and fresh ideas to the table. These young leaders represent various backgrounds and expertise, ensuring that the board is well-equipped to tackle the pressing issues facing their generation. The YSB serves as a vital conduit for engagement, enabling youth to share their insights and participate actively in decision-making processes that affect their lives and communities.

The Youth Sounding Board operates under the Meaningful Engagement-Transformative Action (META) project, for structured CSO dialogue in Kenya. The META Project is funded by the Delegation of the European Union to Kenya (EEAS) and implemented by Femnet, WECF, and the SDGs Kenya Forum

The EU Ambassador to Kenya- Henriette Geiger expressed her enthusiasm, stating, "The YSB's energy and vision for a fairer, greener, and more inclusive Kenya is the change we all need." Her words resonated strongly with the young leaders in attendance, who celebrated the opportunity to shape Kenya’s future.

The 15-member board will be instrumental in amplifying youth voices, shaping impactful policies, and addressing critical issues while fostering inclusive and impactful youth participation in decision-making processes, driving transformative change, and ensuring that young voices play a central role in shaping policies that affect their future.

Meanwhile, the Executive Director of the SDGs Kenya Forum- Florence Syevuo, emphasized the significance of youth involvement, noting, “Young people must be seen as true drivers of change, fully engaged in decisions shaping their future.” These inspiring words emphasize the power of youth in creating a more inclusive and sustainable future.

Central to the mission of the YSB is the philosophy of Engaging, Empowering, and Connecting. This initiative encourages youth to not only voice their opinions but also to acquire essential skills and knowledge to effect change. Through workshops, discussions, and collaborative projects, the YSB empowers its members to become informed advocates who can navigate the complexities of policy-making and community development.

The significance of this platform extends beyond individual growth; it embodies a collective vision for a more inclusive future. By harnessing the creativity and energy of the youth, the YSB seeks to address critical issues such as climate change, social justice, and economic empowerment. Together, these young changemakers will strive to craft solutions that resonate with their peers and contribute to sustainable development across Kenya.

The launch event was filled with a celebratory atmosphere, with attendees recognizing the board’s potential to create a ripple effect across the country. As the Youth Sounding Board moves forward, it symbolizes a powerful movement for youth to take the lead in building a more equitable, sustainable, and prosperous future for Kenya.
