STORY

Dr Elizabeth Wala, co-chair at the SDGs Kenya Forum, is the Programme Director for Health Systems Strengthening at Amref Health Africa in Kenya. She is also the Vice Chair at the Kenya Health Federation (KHF) for the period 2018 to 2022.

We take a moment to appreciate her hard work (and other health care workers working selflessly at the frontline) in the COVID 19 response in Kenya. She currently runs a series highlighting the plight of health workers by highlighting those who do not have sufficient protective equipment, pending salaries among others. She has also developed strategies on the involvement of the private sector in complimenting the government's efforts in the fight against the pandemic by shielding the most vulnerable from socioeconomic shocks and scaling up testing and protection of health care workers. Additionally, she holds weekly online discussions that address various themes including mental health well being and a gendered COVID 19 response. Lastly, she recently joined the National Advisory Committee to advise and oversee the supply and utilisation of blood and blood products.
