Role content and purpose
The Gender and Advocacy Intern will report to the SDGs Kenya Forum Gender Lead and work in close cooperation with Programs Lead and Development Initiatives (DI). You will play a key role on supporting the project ‘Strengthening the SDGs Kenya Forum as an Accountability Platform for Gender and Development; Generation Equality Forum (GEF) project as well as Support in synthesizing gender data from the Forum Partners. 80% of your time will be assigned to the implementation of the gender projects, and 20% to other SDGs Kenya Forum program work and research.
Role Specification
Duties and responsibilities
• Support and contribute to consultations with key stakeholders, including State department gender, CSOs, national and local authorities on the progress of activities implemented
• Support the development and dissemination of Gender knowledge products
• Support assessment and research activities at the community level to gather information and analysis on gender and advocacy issues
• Support in aggregation/basic analysis of gender data to be included in the Gender data dashboard
• Represent the ‘Strengthening the SDGs Kenya Forum as an Accountability Platform for Gender and Development’ project as required to donor organisations, other international organisations, as well as national government and non-governmental institutions.
• Endeavour to build professional relationships with local, district and regional authorities
• Support sensitization and capacity building efforts as may be required for SDGs Goal 5 to the Forum membership and the Gender knowledge Hub
• Perform other duties to strengthen the SDGs Kenya Forum as may be required.
Person specification
Education/qualifications
• Master’s degree (completed or in-process) in a relevant discipline, such as gender, sustainable development, environment, climate change, and/or the social sciences
Required Personal skills/qualities
• Outstanding written and oral communication skills in English
• Experience or demonstrable interest in the field of gender and environment •
• Demonstrable understanding of teamwork, coordination and time management skills
• Ability to undertake research, analyse and integrate diverse information from varied sources
• A team player with excellent organisational skills, who can also work independently and prioritise own workload
• Ability to professionally represent SDGs Kenya Forum in a variety of meetings and other external fora
Other desirable skills/qualities
• Ability to work within project management processes ensuring timely delivery of work to meet the highest quality
• Good analytical skills and confidence to question the validity of information and offer ideas and solutions.
General responsibilities
• Be aware of COVID 19 health and safety issues and obligations
• Uphold all aspects of organisational policies and procedures and legal requirements in relation to personal conduct
• Prepare for and engage in one-to-one meetings and performance management appraisals
• Be willing and committed to take on new work as and when required.
