Climate change is a major threat to sustainable development, affecting livelihoods, food security, ecosystems and economic opportunities, with disproportionate impacts on women, youth, persons with disabilities and other marginalized groups. Climate action is therefore approached as both an environmental and development priority, addressing interconnected challenges of poverty, gender inequality, livelihoods and biodiversity loss.

Through Community Dialogues, partnerships and multi-stakeholder engagement, locally led climate solutions are promoted to strengthen community participation in climate planning and decision-making. Community-led environmental conservation, tree growing and ecosystem restoration support biodiversity, restore degraded landscapes and contribute to Kenya's commitment to increase tree cover to 30 percent by 2032, with emphasis on indigenous species, agroforestry and long-term ecosystem stewardship.

Climate action is linked to sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, women's economic empowerment and green livelihoods, while climate and SDG data and community knowledge strengthen evidence-based advocacy, planning and accountability. These approaches advance inclusive, locally owned climate solutions that build resilience and leave no one behind.
