Agriculture remains central to livelihoods, food security and local economic development across Kenya, while climate change, land degradation, rising production pressures, post-harvest losses and limited access to markets continue to affect agricultural productivity and household incomes. Sustainable and climate-resilient food systems are therefore critical to strengthening livelihoods, reducing vulnerability and ensuring that communities can adapt to changing environmental and economic conditions.

Together with our members and partners we promote climate-smart and sustainable agricultural practices, alongside value addition, agribusiness and market linkages, creating opportunities to increase productivity, diversify incomes and strengthen local value chains. Particular attention is given to expanding economic opportunities for women, youth and community groups through skills development, entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihood initiatives.

Reducing food loss and waste is also central to building resilient food systems. Community-led solutions such as improved harvesting and storage practices, processing, solar drying, aggregation and local value addition can reduce losses, increase the value of agricultural products and improve food availability and household incomes.

These approaches connect sustainable agriculture with climate resilience, women's economic empowerment, decent livelihoods and responsible production, contributing to food systems that are more inclusive, productive and environmentally sustainable.
